We are thrilled to announce that Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait will be literally running into EPIC 2009 to kick off the event and officially conclude their astonishing 11,000 mile "Run For One Planet".
Returning almost exactly one year after they left on their 'epic' journey, Matt and Stephanie, along with dozens of supporters, will arrive at EPIC to celebrate their triumphant return.
On the EPIC Main Stage they will talk about their amazing journey, premiere their video documentary of their incredible physical, mental and emotional ordeal, and unveil their exciting new project, "Legacy for Action". Following their Main Stage appearance will be the "Run For One Planet Homecoming Reception" where Matt and Stephanie will be available for media interviews and to sign autographs, answer questions and pose for pictures.
About Run For One Planet
The Run For One Planet is an ongoing run endeavour focused on "Inspiring Environmental Action, One Step at a Time". The Run For One Planet Tour started in Vancouver, British Columbia in May 2008, and Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait are well into the second half of their 11,000 mile journey across Canada, down the east coast of the US, through the southern US and back up the west coast to Vancouver, BC.
The Run For One Planet North America Tour is a carbon neutral, year-long run around the continent by two Canadians - Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait - to inspire environmental action.
Their goal is to run one marathon each per day, inspire one million new Actions for Earth and raise $1 million for our Legacy of Action. To do this, they will be running approximately 11,000-miles (or 17,700 km) through communities, towns, and cities to meet with, speak to, and inspire people to take simple, sustainable daily actions.
Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait will return to Vancouver on May 8th, 2009 and will be literally running into EPIC 2009 to kick off the event!
Upon completion of the tour, funds donated to the Run For One Planet will be used to set up a unique Legacy of Action that will be poised to lead the emerging field of environmental and lifestyle education for kids. The Legacy of Action will be governed by a Board with kids actually sitting as board members and consists of two main components: funding and education
Funding: Direct funding will be provided to empower kids to take environmental action within their own communities through green initiative classroom projects that educate, rehabilitate and spread environmental awareness and lifestyle change.
Education: Direct training and environmental education for kids - in a medium they understand, the Internet. Kids that sign up for training will become R41P Action Ambassadors. They'll be armed with knowledge about the environment and the simple things we can do to in order to be greener citizens. Our Action Ambassadors in turn educate their peers using the training that R41P provides - motivating other kids to spread the message to parents and siblings. So essentially, kids train kids who then teach their families about lifestyle changes that reduce our ecological footprint - a trickle up affect.
